Disc Problems In The Neck – Chiropractic vs Injection

An interesting bit of research was done in the Orthopaedic University Hospital Balgrist, University of Zurich, Switzerland published in the Journal of Manipulative Therapeutics (JMPT).

It talks about disc herniation visible on MRI in the neck and compares the effectiveness of chiropractic adjustments (referred to as Spinal Manipulative Therapy {SMT}) with injection into the affected nerve root.
The study finds chiropractic adjustments vastly more effective in subacute or longer term chronic cases.
I would also note that the study was done over a period of 3 months.
The patients receiving chiropractic were adjusted 3 to 5 times per week for up to 4 weeks, and then 1 to 3 times per week for the remainder of the 3 months….emphasizing that it doesn’t happen overnight!
